Removing Barriers: Employment (Recording)

This webinar took place on Tuesday 2 June 2020.

A bite-sized webinar to equip you to check that the culture of your organisation is as straightforward as possible for D/deaf and disabled people to navigate. The aim is for you to feel more confident in employing D/deaf and disabled people across your organisations.

We will touch on your legal duties as an employer under the disability provisions of the Equality Act (2010) but focus more on good practice and the benefits of a diverse workforce and we will look at Access to Work and how important it can become to you.

We will also touch on the benefits of diverse creative teams and look at examples of working with disabled and D/deaf theatremakers.

As we consider our journey to recovery, exploring what our industry will look like and how we want to rebuild it, we have an opportunity to make it the most excitingly diverse theatre industry we have ever had.

The last few weeks have shown how innovative and resourceful we can be, and we have taken steps to make theatre and to put our work into the world in new ways. In so doing, many people have learned new skills, technologies and artistic approaches which need to become part of the everyday so that disabled and D/deaf theatremakers, audiences and participants do not get left behind.

These bite-sized webinars will equip you to ensure that disabled and D/deaf people are a part of your organisations making exciting contributions to the work you programme and produce.

At the end of this webinar you will:

  • Know the basics of your legal duties under the Equality Act (2010);
  • Be able to begin to review your job descriptions and recruitments processes to ensure they do not inadvertently exclude disabled and D/deaf people;
  • Have some examples of disabled and D/deaf people working in different roles in theatre.

Suitable for anyone responsible for HR or recruitment, or for anyone in a managerial role.

You will get the most from this webinar if you have already done or watched the ‘Removing Barriers’ webinar.
