This session will explore the effects of racism and strategies to mitigate/support people who experience both direct and systemic racism.
Racism has both an emotional and physical impact on the individual experiencing it. The trauma that direct and systemic racism causes is often unexplored. Understanding it can support you as a manager and leader to ensure the wellbeing of your team. This session will discuss the science behind racism, showcase the way it impacts the body and emotional health and provide strategies for you as a manager to support your team members who may experience both direct and systemic racism.
You will leave feeling more confident in the steps you need to take to create a trauma informed environment and an anti-racist workplace.

Naomi Mwasambili, Chauna Health
Naomi has worked for over a decade in the area of social innovation, mental health and research. Starting her career in research, she has worked as a clinician and, more recently, been focused on service and product design in digital healthcare. Her team at Chanua have developed a range of products and services embedding play, gamification and technology in areas of health, mental health and enterprise development and an example of this can be seen through their Neuro Champions programme training young leaders in areas of the Brain and Mental Health through immersive training, play and technology. She is a Wellcome Trust public engagement awardee and co-led the UK implementation of Hacking Health part of a Global Network of Healthcare innovators.
Julie Clare, Theatre Producer & Business Director of Inc Arts UK heading up their Anti-racism Training and Consulting programmes
Julie has worked in the anti-racism arena since 2011 in her role as Strategic Director for Fresh Voices UK - an organisation dedicated to promoting the work of ethnically diverse writers to the top levels of the UK television and theatre industries. As a producer, she is a Stage One Bursary Winner. She produced Olivier award-winning Showstopper! The Improvised Musical and was associate producer on two other Olivier award-winning productions Baby Reindeer and In The Heights.
